General Commission Contract information:
- All of the following is subject to change without
notice.

- The entire fee is due up front.
- The greater of $150 or 1/3 of the commission fee, is not refundable; for commissions less than $150 there is no refund.
- Depending on the size and detail of the work, a maquette or small study piece may be created; for SMALL commissions a maquette is NOT available. A maquette allows for significant changes in the commissioned work, but it is not to be used to completely alter the original concept. i.e. if you ordered an impressionistic spray of flowers, do not expect Jake to change the commission into a realistic canyon overlook. But if you decided you want the spray of flowers to be purple instead of yellow, such a change may or may not be accommodated. Jake may or may not rework the maquette one-time to finalize significant changes; in the example of changing the flower color, a scan of the maquette and a PhotoShop hack may be sufficient to convey the sense of the change in order to move forward on the full-scale project.
- On small pieces, there will be at least one way
point check to ensure the work is progressing in the direction the commissioner
wants. This way point is the time to make MINOR design edits, i.e. "that
spot is a little too dark," "make this spot a little brighter," "make this
spot a little more red," "define this line a little more..." "Paint
out this tree line with the sky" is NOT a minor design edit.

- If a project includes a completed maquette, there will be one way-point on the full-scale commissioned project to finalize MINOR design edits required to satisfy the commissioner's vision.
- The commissioning contract will contain contact information for both parties, subject, medium and materials list, a clause guaranteeing fidelity to the accepted proposal and a clause requiring mutual consent to make changes, a time table for delivery, all inclusive fees such as sales tax and delivery fees, and other legal matters as required (see AKAJake sales contract for example of the other fine print).
- Portraits and other projects based on the commissioner's likeness or materials will require a signed release in order for Jake to create the likeness or other materials whose copyright is owned by the commissioner.
- Price
- In general commissioned works tend to be a little more expensive than off the rack.
- For the most part, price depends on size and detail. Detail takes time and costs more accordingly.
- Unless otherwise agreed to in writing Jake Beckman retains
the copyright to all commissioned work. Jake is free to use an image of
the art for whatever purpose Jake deems appropriate unless otherwise agreed
to in writing.
- If the commissioner wishes to retain copyright, then there will be a copyright fee of $50 if the commissioner allows Jake to use the image for self-promotion and maintain and image in Jake's portfolio. See example of such use on this page.
- The copyright fee is $150 if the commissioner doesn't want Jake to use the image of the commissioned piece or keep such an image of the commissioned work in .Jake's portfolio.
- Copyright transfer fees for a commissioned project are in addition to the commission fee, but is still due up front.
- It is the responsibility of the commissioner to set-up, register, and maintain their own copyright if they purchase the copyright from the artist for a commissioned project.
- The commissioner should realize if they hire a photographer to document the commissioned project, the photographer has their own copyright over the image created unless the photographer is "working for hire."
