Travel to Italy

I was very excited, but I did finishing packing two days before the trip so I slept pretty well , especially since my flight wasn't super early in the morning so I wasn't' worried about sleeping late and missing my flight. In the morning before heading out I got some traveler's checks which turned out to be a total waste of time. I had a leisurely breakfast with my husband at The Old Brass Rail Saloon and arrived to Sky Harbor three hours prior to check in, which is recommended for an overseas flight. Even though my City Jet boarding pass did not print at home, it still only took me 15 minutes to obtain one, check my gun case and get through security.  I sat in the airport pub for several hours until my flight and drank a couple of very overprice margaritas while reading a book.

On the trip to Salt Lake City a lovely old sports booster from Helena Montana talk to me for the whole flight.

My seatmate on that flight overseas slept most of the way, but I didn't bring earplugs and every little noise stirred me. I didn't sleep much, but instead watch several movies including the latest Harry Potter flick.  It was a very uneventful flight.

We got into Paris early meant we deplaned on the tarmac, had to carry our bags here, there and everywhere, and got a scenic tour of Charles De Gaulle from the transport buses.

Then onto Florence. The airport at Florence has no covered jet gateways like I am familiar with. So like Paris we deplaned on the tarmac and road a bus to the terminal, which took no time at all because Florence Airport is also quite small.  We had to wait on the transport bus, while they figured out the source of an alarm. When we were finally allowed to go in, I waited for the gun case, which never appeared. About the time I was thinking I needed to talk to someone about it, Florence customs yelled my name. The gun bag I carried my stretcher bars in, totally freaked the Italian customs officials out, until they realized I didn't have a gun. I gave them a couple of brochures, which were also in the bag & they lost interest in me. I guess it was an exciting day for them, a fire alarm and a gun case. By the time I arrived in Italy it was December 1 and in the afternoon. The cabbie said Buena Sera as he dropped me off at the Hotel Arizona.

I checked in and got directions to a Supermarket to pick up some cold cuts and a soda. I managed to get a checkout cashier annoyed at me because in Florence you bag your fruit, weight it and get the sticker yourself. Needless to say I was unaware of this procedure and as luck would have it I wound up with one of the few people in Florence who didn't speak any English. I got back to the hotel, constructed a sandwich, which I ate and then collapsed into a slumbering heap. Needless to say I was awake in the middle of the night, jet lag.
