Tear down. I went to the pavilion around 9:30 in the morning and already most of the art was gone. It took me far less time to disable my work than it did to assemble it, but I had not done a full-blown re-stretch as I knew I would probably be taking it apart in 2 weeks. If I had sold a piece it might have been a problem, but although I did have a couple of nibbles, no one made an appointment for to pickup a piece on this day. Tawera was at the hall, but her Po had already moved on and she was dealing with getting her crate moved from biennale storage to some other location. We made an appointment to meet back at my hotel at 3 PM.
I did some more roaming around after dropping my work at the hotel. These last two days were bitterly cold and there was snow on the hillsides surrounding the city. I brought clothes for 50-ish weather. It still wasn't too bad unless I stopped moving while walking through the city so I did my best to keep moving to stay warm when I was outside. The missing Roma had appeared like magic. My guess? The Roma follow the tide of tourists.
Florence seemed to be done decorating, lights were strung along all the narrow downtown roads, a Christmas tree went up in Piazza Repubblica, along with a smaller tree and a Santa Claus on the carousel. I paid another visit to Edison's to pick up another book to read on my flight home. I waited for Tawera in the lobby of my hotel for a while, but it was cold down there so I went back up to my room where it was warm until it got closer to 3 PM. We went to Piazza Ciompi as she was looking for a book published in a certain year in the 1800s. Piazza Ciompi is a flea market or giant permanent garage sale and Tawera was quite happy picking through the junk looking for treasures to put into her next art piece. We found several books that were close to what she had in mind, but none had the date right.
Eventually she decided she should go back to the her apartment as
Lianne didn't have a key; it turned out to be a good idea as Lianne had
been waiting in the stairwell & as I said it was very cold this last day
in Florence. Tawera and Lianne fed me some leftover risotto buried in
local olives and fresh red bell pepper along with a cup of tea. They
told me I looked like hell and to be perfectly honest I was not feeling
all that good. It turns out I was coming down with a vicious cold.
Anyway I went back to my hotel, checked out so that I would not have to
deal with it in the morning, then went to my room to pack.
