Travel day. I slept badly as I had come down with the cold. I did not
have any cold medicine with me and the farmacia's don't open until 9 AM.
I needed to be at the airport at 8. I had planned a nice leisurely
flight home with ample layovers and aisle seats as I have a hard time
sitting still. I loaded my pockets up with napkins and made my way to
the airport. I marveled that excepting the scooters, Italian drivers now
stay in the lines, another distinction from 30 years ago. I checked the
gun case and waited for my flight. Unfortunately that flight got
canceled. All the passengers had to go get their bags out of checked
baggage, carry them back to the terminal and make other arrangements.
For the first time I missed not having a cell-phone in Italy. Although I
was only about the
6th person in my line it took over an hour to make my way to the
counter. I got a flight into Atlanta as obviously I would miss all of my
planned connections. And thus began the marathon flight from hell. I was
sick, the new schedule did not give me hardly any time to make
connections, and I was sandwiched between two people for the flight
across the Atlantic; Also, I felt bad for my seat mates who were stuck
next to a disease vector for 10 hours. I had to run through Charles De
Gualle and run through Atlanta sicker than a dog. It was just miserable.
My flight arrived back in Phoenix on December 16 shortly after midnight,
where my loving husband welcomed me home. I immediately went for the
NyQuil and spent the next two weeks watching Christmas shows and doing
little else.
That's it. Home again. Home again…
