Mystic River is a pastel painting on light-blue toned paper. The work is double matted in khaki and a dark warm dark gray and framed in a mahogany-colored frame, which has a gold colored beaded embellishment around the work. A wide deep river flows; it is lined with trees which give way to rolling hills. The trees are reflected in the waters of the river. The colors are blue, brown, black, yellowand orange.

Have you ever sat on the bank of a river during the stifling heat of summer? Can't you just hear the cicadas zinging in the trees, while you idly smack at a fly or mosquito. Imagine keeping a sleepy eye on the fishing line you have dropped in the water. When I go fishing, the actual catching of fish has nothing to do with my enjoyment of it. I could just as easily be leaning against a tree, creating a plein air pastel painting of still waters running deep.-Jake
