Lake Michigan Summer, by Jake Beckman, is a 9" x 12"
watercolor plein air whose subject is Wisconsin's Kohler Andre Park's Lake
Michigan beach in soft blue, green, tan and white.
One of my dearest friends moved from Irvine California to the Great White
North and that has availed me of many opportunities to investigate Wisconsin's
many scenic treasures during the summer time. Time was when my friend and I
would go to Crystal Cove near Newport Beach and hang out on the cliffs
overlooking the Pacific Ocean at sunset. Naturally we had to find a similar
vista to gaze over in her new state of residence, if not mind. We didn't find
any cliffs, but the shores of Lake Michigan are sufficiently beach-like,
although the on-shore breezes are cooler than those in Southern California. In
this plein air water color I wanted to capture the sense of summer light that is
the essence of the beach and I think I have.-Jake
