White Wings & White Water

White Wings and White Water 24 inch x 30 inch acrylic on canvas. The gallery wrapped canvas is painted to the exposed edge that it may be hung without a frame. FAR Tag  # : 1912 White Wings and White Water, by Jake Beckman, AKAJake, AKA Jake, features a white wing dove flitting over the edge Grand Falls of the Little Colorado near dusk. The predominant colors are blues and rich browns, with white, black and a hints of yellow and orange.

To date this is the latest in the aerial series. I envisioned this detailed image of the Little Colorado's Grand Falls during a full runoff... Arizona has many rivers that frequently have little or no water in them most of the year. The Little Colorado usually has a trickle, but when a thunderstorm hits its drainages, it can turn into a spectacular muddy torrent very quickly. As I was painting the water, these little curls started happening in my brush strokes. If felt right and so I went with it. I think the more painterly effect conveys the motion of the water much better than a photo realistic image would. As for why this particular species of dove is called a white wing, I can't really answer; it looks to me like it should be called a dark wing.-Jake
