Holding Wonder

Holding Wonder is an original pastel painting on paper. The work is 12 x 8.5 inches. It is shown mounted in a 24 x 18 inch poster frame with two mats: black & white paper. Holding Wonder, by Jake Beckman, a brown eyed beholder, sees two children, a brother and sister perhaps, or maybe just neighborhood friends, gazing at the stars. The boy dressed in blue jeans and a white T-shirt wraps his arm around the shoulders of the smaller girl who wears a pink dress. The very recognizable constellation the big dipper is high in the night sky. The predominant colors are brown, black, blue, pink, yellow and white. The Work is signed by the Artist, Jake, in the lower right hand corner. On the back of the work the title and date of creation are noted in pencil; the FAR Tag No. 2703 is placed in the region behind the signature on the back of the work. The work is federally copyrighted. All reproduction and publishing copyrights are retained by the artist. I have had a life-long fascination with the stars. Even as I was studying nuclear physics, the connection of the very small (particle physics) with the very large (the universe) interested me. As a child I often hung out with my pals on the roof, looking up at the constellations, naming the ones I knew and making up names for the ones I didn't. One hazard of living in the city it that the light bloom washes out all but the very brightest of stars. When I get out of the city is is one thing I make sure I do is to look up at the night sky. -Jake
