Born of Fire

"Born of Fire" is an original acrylic 18 inch x 24 inch painting on cold press 140 lb watercolor paper. The paper has been treated with gesso on both sides to enhance its durability. In "Born of Fire", by Jake Beckman, a flying, winged dragon gazes skyward, oblivious to the inferno that surrounds it.  The background is an impression of a Strombolian volcanic eruption.  The predominant colors are shades of red, yellow, and black with shades of green, blue and violet. The Work is signed by the Artist, Jake, in the lower right hand corner. On the back of the work the title and date of creation are noted in pencil; the FAR Tag No. 17486 is placed in the region behind the signature on the back of the work. The work is federally copyrighted. All reproduction and publishing copyrights are retained by the artist. Images are not to be copied, re-distributed, imitated, derived OR otherwise used in any form without the explicit written permission of the artist.

This painting was the result of parallel process with "2nd Story Job".  I didn't really have a plan for this piece; it just happened.  Since "2nd Story Job" required drying time between layers I sort of did the same kind of background and used the same color pallet.  The only variation in color was the use a glob of manganese blue that was sitting on my wet pallet from a previous painting.  The glaze for the body of the dragon in this color created an effect I so enjoyed I had to leave some of it intact even as I detailed out my black serpent.  - Jake
