Prickly Pear Study No 2 Framed and Matted 8 inch x 10 inch

Pear Study No 2, by Jake Beckman, is a close in study of a yellow flower,
against the grey-green paddles and the pink of the desert floor.
Prickly Pears grow wild through out the desert southwest. The paddles range
from bright green to dusty gray to an almost purple color and likewise the
flowers also come in a variety of colors. I don't know if the variation
represents different species of not. Anyway, like most cactus flowers of color,
they tend to bloom in the daytime, but the delicate flowers only last a short
time. Although I have seen red and pink prickly pear flowers I believe yellow is
the most common color-of course I have nothing other than my experience to base
that on-I could be wrong. -Jake
