Echinopsis Study No 1 24 inch x 30 inch acrylic on stretched canvas. The gallery wrapped canvas is painted to the exposed edge that it may be hung without a frame. FAR Tag # : 1891. Echinopsis Study No 1, by Jake Beckman, a study of the pale white flowers and thorny barrel, is set against a purple background.

I had one of these in my front yard until my husband mowed it down, probably because he didn't know it was there in the grass beneath the lofty night blooming cereus. The barrels are small and tightly packed. Late in the spring it will throw up these long stalks and late at night the huge disproportionate flowers will open. All the night bloomers I have seen have pale white flowers; the violet cast in my painting is the result of the saturating the streetlight in my reference, which I thought was very pretty-Jake.
