Barrel No 1 24 inch x 36 inch acrylic on stretched canvas. The gallery wrapped canvas is painted to the exposed edge that it may be hung without a frame. FAR Tag #: 599. Barrel No 1 is a close in study of a brilliant pink, orange and yellow flowers of a fishhook barrel cactus against the bright green back drop of the plant's thorny barrel by Jake Beckman.

A fishhook cactus can be quite pretty even without the flowers as the pronounced spines for which it is named are spectacular. But when one blooms, now that is something to see as well. The flowers depicted are definitely blown out in terms of color as I was experimenting with a pop look in this painting. But the real thing is also very brightly colored.-Jake
