A Boy and His Dog: The work is and acrylic painting on loose canvas framed in a 2-inch wide cherry colored frame and matted in a 2-inch wide white mat to 27.5" X 21.5 inches. The FAR # is 2664. A Boy and His Dog is a primitive painting with distressed red oxide, yellow ocher, burnt umber and buff colored pumice and gesso ground; an archetypal figure of a boy and bounding dog are lightly carved into the ground and then green clock wise spirals and hand stencil along with a brown mountain and days travel line are layered on to convey the passage of time, implying hands through the ages have created this work.
After painting Cats in the Cave I did eventually get around to giving equal voice to the canines in this series. I actually have both kinds of animals in my home. The joyful dog is way out of proportion in this work, but then again, proportion is not what Graffiti is about.-Jake
